How Much Does a Destination Wedding in Puglia Cost? A Realistic 2027 Guide

Masseria bianca in Puglia, location per matrimonio

How much does a destination wedding in Puglia cost? It’s usually the second question couples ask me, right after “Are you available on our date?”. It’s the right question to ask early, because the answer depends less on the region itself than on three decisions: how many guests you invite, how many days you celebrate and which masseria you choose.

I’ve photographed weddings in Puglia for many years, from the first welcome drinks to the last song at 2am. So I get to see the whole budget come to life, not just my part of it. This guide is what I’d tell a friend planning their wedding here.

What a destination wedding in Puglia will cost in 2027

These ranges are realistic for a high-end wedding with a multi-day celebration, exclusive use of a masseria and an international guest list:

Wedding styleGuestsTypical total budget
Intimate or midweek30–50€30,000 – €60,000
Classic multi-day weekend70–100€70,000 – €130,000
Luxury, extended celebration100–150+€150,000 – €250,000+

A wedding weekend usually includes a welcome dinner, the wedding day and a farewell brunch. Every extra event adds catering, staff, rentals and hours for your suppliers, so it’s the single biggest driver of the final number after guest count.

The main costs, one by one

Masseria or venue hire

The venue is usually the first big commitment, and the choice is wide: from intimate masserie to large estates with rooms for all your guests. As a starting point, venue hire in Puglia begins at around €10,000 and goes up from there, depending on the estate, the season and how many days you book it for.

If you’re still choosing, my guide to the best masserie in Puglia for a destination wedding is a good place to start.

Catering and drinks

Puglia’s food is one of the reasons couples fall in love with the region, and it’s where most of the budget goes. Expect €150 to €300+ per guest for the wedding dinner, depending on the menu (seafood raises the price) and the service style. An open bar, a welcome dinner or a farewell brunch are additional costs to plan for on top of the wedding dinner.

Wedding planner

For a destination wedding, a local planner isn’t a luxury. They’re how everything actually happens. Fees usually start from around €6,000 and grow with the size and complexity of the celebration. A good planner saves you more than they cost, especially on supplier contracts and logistics.

Photography

This is my field, so I’ll be specific in the next section.

Flowers, design and lighting

This is the most flexible part of the budget. A refined design with olive branches, local greenery, candles and a few floral focal points usually falls between €5,000 and €15,000. Full floral installations, ceremony arches and designed tablescapes for larger weddings start from €15,000 upwards. Lighting design is often underestimated: masserie are magical at night, but only if they’re properly lit.

Music and entertainment

Music shapes the mood of the whole celebration, from a string quartet during the ceremony to a live band or DJ for the party. Prices vary a lot depending on the artists, the line-up and the hours you need, so it’s worth asking your planner for a shortlist of trusted musicians and a few quotes. Many couples add a pizzica show, the traditional dance of Salento, which guests always remember.

What a destination wedding photographer really includes

Couples often compare photographers by price alone, but for a destination wedding the real difference is in what’s included.

Wedding photography in Italy covers a very wide range: it can start from around €3,000 and reach €50,000 to €60,000 for the most exclusive, multi-day productions. What makes the difference is the experience of the team, how many days and photographers are involved, and what you take home at the end. This is what every destination wedding with my studio includes:

  • Two photographers. At a destination wedding things happen in parallel: guests arriving while you’re getting ready, the ceremony seen from two angles, the party and the quiet moments at the same time. One photographer can’t be in two places at once.
  • Coverage across the whole celebration, not just the ceremony, including the welcome dinner if you choose it.
  • A documentary and editorial approach. Most of the day unfolds naturally, with a few guided portraits in the best light of the day.
  • Heirloom products. Handcrafted albums and fine art boxes are what your photographs become in twenty years’ time.

When comparing quotes, check whether travel, a second photographer, extra hours and the album are included or added on. That’s where two similar prices can turn out very different. Every destination wedding is different, so I prefer to prepare a personalised proposal around your dates, your venue and the story you want to tell. Tell me about your wedding and I’ll send you one.

The hidden costs couples forget

Beyond the main suppliers, these are the additional costs couples most often forget to include in their budget:

  • Rain plan. A marquee or covered area for an outdoor wedding, essential in spring and autumn.
  • Guest transport. Masserie are often in the countryside, so shuttles between hotels and the venue are usually needed.
  • Music licensing (SIAE). Italy charges a fee for music played at events, collected by SIAE.
  • Supplier meals and travel. Photographers, videographers and musicians working a full day need meals, and suppliers from outside the area need accommodation.
  • Overtime. If the party runs past the agreed time, staff, music and venue fees usually run with it.
  • VAT. Many quotes in Italy are given excluding VAT, so always check.

What changes the final price the most

  1. Guest count. Almost every line in the budget scales with it.
  2. Number of events. A three-day celebration can cost up to twice as much as a single day.
  3. Season. June and September are the most requested months and the most expensive. May and early October offer beautiful light, fewer crowds and more room to negotiate. My month-by-month guide explains the pros and cons of each.
  4. Day of the week. Weekday weddings often come with lower venue fees.

Where not to save

Whatever your destination wedding in Puglia will cost in the end, spend where it matters. If you need to cut somewhere, cut the extras guests won’t remember, like favours, printed stationery or a second outfit change. Don’t cut the things you can’t redo: a good planner, a proper rain plan, the food, and the photographs.

When the flowers have faded and the last guest has flown home, the photographs are the only part of the budget that grows in value over time.

Frequently asked questions

Does a destination wedding in Puglia cost less than Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast?

It’s often slightly cheaper for venues and catering, but a luxury wedding in Puglia is no longer a “budget” alternative. The difference is more in atmosphere than in price.

How far in advance should we book?

12 to 18 months ahead for the venue, planner and photographer, especially for June and September dates.

Do we need a planner if our venue has an in-house coordinator?

The venue coordinator looks after the venue. A planner looks after you, your guests and every supplier. For a destination wedding, I always recommend one.

How much should we budget for photography?

It depends on how many days you celebrate, how many photographers you need and what you want to take home, from digital images to handcrafted albums. The best way to know is to ask for a personalised quote based on your destination wedding.
